About Me

My name is Gretchen and I’m a writer, editor, and expert in all things health and wellness. I have a background in biology and was on the track to become a doctor, but after a series of health struggles—that left me pretty disillusioned with the way conventional medicine likes to do things—I went rogue and started learning everything I possibly could about diet and lifestyle change, natural medicine, mindfulness, gut health—anything that offered an alternative to pharmaceuticals and the many, many (many!) doctors I’d seen who didn’t want to listen.

I started shadowing a naturopathic doctor before I left college and it quickly catapulted me into the field of complementary and alternative medicine / functional medicine / integrative medicine—whatever you want to call it. I’ve never looked back. I earned my masters degree in Physiology with a concentration in complementary and alternative medicine from Georgetown University in 2016 and am currently working as a health editor at mindbodygreen.com. Every day I work with leaders in the integrative and functional medicine community—like Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Aviva Romm, and Dr. Robert Graham developing fabulous content, reading the latest research, and following all the trends in health and wellness.

Over the last decade, I’ve been able to bring my body back to a state of peace and calm, step by step. I had a lot of help along the way, but also had to figure a lot of it out on my own. My goal in life is to help you understand that when it comes to healthcare—you have options. My passion lies in connecting people to a type of medicine that aligns with their values and makes them feel like empowered, active players in their own well-being. It is possible!
